About this game
Life Is Strange: True Colors is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on area and route exploration, story, case, or mission progress, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Life is Strange follows ordinary people through difficult relationships, personal choices and extraordinary circumstances. Conversations and exploration carry its stories, with supernatural abilities in some entries offering unusual ways to understand people or reconsider an action.

Intimate relationships outshine the mystery.
True Colors works best when Alex is listening to someone rather than chasing an explanation. Empathy connects observation with conversation, so participation comes from interpreting people instead of solving elaborate mechanisms. Music and performances make the town feel worth knowing. That personal focus is stronger than the mystery structure, whose delayed answers arrive in a compressed conclusion. The result can be emotionally persuasive without being equally convincing as suspense. The original PS5 test also records stutter during exploration, an unwelcome interruption in a game built around looking and listening. This judgment concerns the September 2021 base story, excludes Wavelengths, and does not project those historical performance observations onto later patches.
Strengths
- Empathy gives conversations a personal stake.
Weaknesses
- Uneven resolution and launch stutter interrupt engagement.
Who it is for: Players who prefer reflective character stories.
Play notes: Historical 2021 base story; later patches and Wavelengths are excluded.
