About this game

Legend of Kay - Anniversary is a Wii U action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

7.1 / 10Wii U

An enjoyable old-fashioned adventure in a modest remaster.

Legend of Kay Anniversary on Wii U follows a young cat warrior leaving his village to resist an invading force of rats and gorillas. A direct European Wii U review finds a slow opening, but the adventure becomes more engaging once combat opens up. Positioning around enemies matters, while puzzles, platforming and exploration provide more variety than a string of fights alone. Updated graphics and attractive comic-book stills improve the presentation without hiding its older roots. Character animation can be stiff, voice acting uneven, and control and menu conventions still feel like those of the PS2 era. This is a remaster rather than a comprehensive remake. The source does not systematically measure frame rate or crashes, so no broad technical-stability claim is added. This score applies to the reviewed 2015 European Wii U edition, not the original PS2 product or another port. Players fond of classic action-adventures with puzzles may enjoy its persistent charm; those demanding modern interface polish should be prepared for friction.

Strengths

  • Combat, puzzles and comic stills give the journey variety.

Weaknesses

  • Slow opening and dated interface and acting remain.

Who it is for: Fans of classic puzzle-laced action adventures.

Play notes: European Wii U edition only; no broad performance claim.
