About this game

Kisekae Series 2 - Oshare Nikki is a Game Boy Color simulation release centered on state management, system learning, and repeated adjustment and feedback. Schedules, changing values, or staged goals encourage repeated adjustment, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on campaign length or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Interface clarity and state feedback matter more than spectacle, while color choices need to distinguish characters, objects, and routes rather than serve as decoration alone. The main genre-specific friction is that explanations, dense menus, real-time systems, or accessory dependencies can add friction. In addition, battery saves, link cables, cartridge-specific hardware, the unlit display, and regional language can affect the original experience. This description covers only this release and excludes emulator features, modern-port conveniences, and content from other platforms.

7.0 / 10Game Boy Color (GBC)

A warm GBC school-life and fashion sim with appealing choices, limited by repetitive days and fixed outfit combinations.

The 2001 Japanese Game Boy Color Kisekae Series 2: Oshare Nikki follows transfer student Ruri through her final school year. Fashion is not merely a separate dressing screen: gradually acquired clothes, makeup and accessories feed into days spent joining clubs, working, building friendships, dating and considering paths after graduation. That link between appearance and social response gives the compact life simulation a coherent identity, while full-body outfit illustrations make a strong impression on a small handheld display. The near-yearlong structure and different relationships offer more to pursue than the simple premise suggests. Daily school routines can nevertheless become repetitive, and frequent invitations or passerby conversations interrupt the flow. Clothing is also arranged in complete top-and-bottom sets rather than freely mixed pieces. Makeup and nail choices are not always reflected in the full-body view, and the protagonist's portrait style changes across screens. These are limits on expression and polish, not reasons to dismiss a thoughtful niche game. Players who enjoy gentle fashion and relationship stories may find it rewarding. Because the game was released in Japanese and dialogue drives much of the experience, language comprehension matters considerably.

Strengths

  • Fashion choices connect naturally with school relationships.
  • Clubs, jobs, friendship and romance provide breadth.
  • Outfit illustrations give the small-screen style charm.

Weaknesses

  • Routine weekdays and repeated invitations slow progression.
  • Fixed outfit sets restrict mixing pieces.
  • Portraits and cosmetic carry-through lack consistency.

Who it is for: Japanese-reading players who like retro school-life and fashion simulations.

Play notes: This is the 2001 Japanese GBC second entry, not the earlier title or the later hamster game.
