About this game
Jagged Alliance 3 is a PlayStation 5 strategy game centered on combat encounters, turn-based tactical decisions, and turn or phase decisions. Missions add map constraints, new rules, and tougher opposition, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Maps, unit states, and action feedback determine whether complex situations remain readable, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that tutorial depth, dense menus, controller pointing, and long scenarios increase the learning curve. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

PlayStation 5AI review

Deep mercenary tactics with a slow tempo and controller friction.
Action points, destructible cover, body targeting and mercenary specialties interact in tense firefights. Outnumbered squads need considered movement and positioning, so victories feel earned through plans rather than only lucky shots. More than forty mercenaries, villages, diamond mines and enemy counterattacks give the strategy map breadth. Different squads and reactive threats support replay, although the deliberate pace requires patience. Unique mercenary personalities and voice lines make Grand Chien more than a tactical grid. Some action-film jokes and stereotypes grate over a long campaign, however, making its tone less universally inviting. The tested PS5 Performance mode feels responsive, and R2 command combinations make weapon, reload and stance actions manageable. Free targeting and inventory remain fiddly, so dense systems carry clear controller costs.
Strengths
- Combat systems reward planning.
- Squad variety and counterattacks support replay.
Weaknesses
- Aiming and inventory are fiddly.
- Some humour and stereotypes grate.
Who it is for: Players happy to manage a mercenary roster and territory between deliberate tactical battles.
Play notes: Based on a 2023 European PS5 Performance-mode test; later patches and other graphics modes were not inferred.
