About this game

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is a PC action game centered on movement and immediate actions, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Horizon explores a far-future Earth where tribal communities live among overgrown ruins and animal-like machines. Aloy’s adventures combine journeys through striking landscapes with encounters that uncover the lost technological world. Side stories offer other ways to enter the same setting.

7.8 / 10Windows PC

Striking machine combat with repetitive tasks and heavier DLC demands.

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on Windows includes both the base adventure and Burning Shores, so the expansion matters to the judgment. Fighting the largest machines is the high point: exposed parts, shredder and spike weapons, varied ammunition, and weapon techniques reward observation and preparation. Human guards and checklist outposts are less distinctive, and many map activities repeat the first game’s pattern. The included expansion adds flooded islands and more vertical gliding routes, but its new relationships and antagonist move too quickly. Detailed machines, vegetation, and lighting give the world impressive scale even when some sleek science-fiction enemies feel out of place. A direct PC review documents ultrawide and DualSense support, DLSS, and a useful live settings preview. Its tested PC felt responsive through much of the base game, with some busy-scene slowdown. Burning Shores required lower settings to hold performance on that hardware. These are observations of the 2024 reviewed build, not claims about every computer or later patch.

Strengths

  • Weapons and machine parts support varied tactics.

Weaknesses

  • Checklist repetition and heavier Burning Shores performance costs.

Who it is for: Machine-hunting players comfortable tuning PC settings.

Play notes: Performance reflects the 2024 tested PC and included expansion.
