About this game

High on Life is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on area and route exploration, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

A vivid, divisive comic shooter on PS5.

High on Life on PS5 gives every gun a loud alien personality. Their different abilities, varied bosses and semi-open areas make an otherwise easy shooter lively, while returning after upgrades reveals more secrets and treasure. A direct PS5 review finds that vivid extraterrestrial colors, talkative performances and punchy combat music create a very recognizable comic world. Its boundaries are just as clear: ordinary enemy variety is limited, many fights are easy, and crude self-aware jokes depend heavily on individual taste. An option to reduce weapon chatter helps players who enjoy the shooting more than constant dialogue. The reviewer encountered rare slowdown during hectic battles and one crash on PS5. Those observations should neither be inflated into universal faults nor assumed fixed by later patches without current evidence. This is best for players who enjoy absurd comedy while exploring and shooting. Anyone seeking a serious story or demanding gunplay is less likely to connect with it.

Strengths

  • Personality-driven weapons and rewarding exploration.

Weaknesses

  • Limited enemy variety and occasional PS5 slowdown.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy crude alien comedy and light shooting.

Play notes: PS5 review scope; later patch state unverified.
