About this game
Gungrave G.O.R.E. is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on combat encounters, story, case, or mission progress, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Gungrave follows the undead gunslinger Grave through battles defined by heavy gunfire and his coffin-shaped weapon. Its action favours sustained attacks, destructible surroundings and extravagant combat moves, with revenge and loyalty running through the story.

A distinctive pulp shooter is exhausted by repeated fire and poor platforming.
Gungrave G.O.R.E.: Unlimited dual pistols and occasional special moves create the intended barrage. Most corridor fights ask for the same sustained fire, so the basic fantasy has too few tactical changes across the longer campaign. A few alternate-character missions interrupt a long sequence of corridors, but repeated instant-death jumps punish awkward movement rather than better shooting decisions. The narrow loop outlasts its initial appeal. The pulp-action style and Grave’s silhouette retain the series identity, with bursts of satisfying spectacle. Uneven side-character models weaken dramatic scenes and cannot compensate for the repetitive action. The PS5 tester reports that firing requires repeated R2 presses rather than a hold-to-fire option. The most frequent action becomes physically tiring, a controller usability cost independent of an unmeasured frame-rate claim.
Strengths
- Grave retains the series’ pulp identity.
Weaknesses
- Corridor combat repeats.
- Repeated presses and instant-death jumps frustrate.
Who it is for: Dedicated Gungrave fans seeking its older shooting style.
Play notes: Based on the original 2022 PS5 test, not the separate Blood Heat remake.
