About this game
Shadow of the Erdtree expands Elden Ring with an adventure in the Land of Shadow. Following Miquella’s trail, players encounter new characters and investigate the relationship between this unfamiliar territory and the history of the Erdtree. Access requires the base game and the necessary progress within it. The expansion continues the original’s action combat and character building, adding weapons, equipment, skills and magic that broaden the ways to approach enemies. Routes, underground spaces and ruins organise exploration around decisions about pushing forward, gathering resources and adapting a fighting style. It is designed for an established character rather than as a standalone game.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
A demanding expansion whose connected spaces and combat options reward returning curiosity, with PC delivery that deserves a dated technical caveat.
The expansion works best when it makes an experienced player curious again. A visible destination does not immediately reveal the route to it, so exploration becomes a question of reading the landscape rather than simply travelling farther across it. New weapons and abilities give discoveries a practical consequence: a familiar character can be reconsidered without abandoning the underlying appeal of preparation and execution. The harder encounters ask for sustained attention, making this a continuation for players who already value that relationship between learning and success. The limitation is that a rich world does not eliminate friction in the delivery. The inspected PC DLC benchmark recorded uneven frame times even on powerful hardware, a result that cannot be generalised to every machine or silently described as a test of today’s build. Later balance updates also mean launch impressions of individual weapons are not permanent rules. The strongest recommendation is for its spatial discovery and expanded decisions, rather than a promise of uniformly smooth performance.
Strengths
- Layered routes and additional combat tools make discovery matter to both navigation and character building.
Weaknesses
- Demanding encounters and dated evidence of uneven PC frame delivery require patience and carefully scoped expectations.
Who it is for: Experienced Elden Ring players looking for further exploration and build experimentation.
