About this game
Double Dragon is a 街机 fighting game centered on combat encounters, offense-defense reads, and character matchups. Short bouts use character differences and rising difficulty for variety, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hit feedback, and readable arenas create match tension, while period CRT or cabinet displays, horizontal or vertical orientation, pixel and sprite proportions, audio, and cabinet viewing distance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that button mapping, move recognition, multiplayer accessories, and cpu behavior can affect balance. Platform conditions also include coin and continue rules, operator difficulty settings, control-panel condition, screen orientation, board and regional revisions, linked cabinets, and hardware maintenance affect the present-day experience. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Double Dragon is a martial-arts action series built around street brawls and the brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee. Punch, kick and turn dropped weapons against the gangs blocking your path, with many entries letting a second player join the fight.

A playable 1995 fighter with limited depth and animation.
This 1995 Double Dragon is the Neo Geo MVS one-on-one fighting spin-off, a separate game from the 1987 arcade beat-em-up. Ten selectable fighters use four attack strengths, special moves and a charge meter. Billy and Jimmy’s transformations and a few distinctive character styles give fans something beyond the familiar name. Large sprites and destructible backgrounds provide some arcade presence, although the animation is sparse and the movie footage sits awkwardly beside the drawn characters. A direct review of the arcade build finds a functional fighter with limited originality, options and reasons to keep exploring after learning its roster. The four-button input scheme and special moves work; the available evidence does not justify inventing a major MVS stability problem. Its reduced animation is a more specific limitation on combat feedback. Neo Geo enthusiasts may enjoy an obscure branch of the series, but this is not a cooperative street brawler and should never inherit the 1987 game’s evaluation.
Strengths
- Ten fighters, charge moves and reactive stages.
Weaknesses
- Thin modes, sparse animation and uneven style.
Who it is for: Fans of obscure Neo Geo fighters.
Play notes: The 1995 MVS fighter, not the 1987 beat-em-up.
