About this game

Destiny 2 is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on combat encounters, area and route exploration, and collection and development goals. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Destiny blends science-fiction gunplay, extraordinary powers and the hunt for useful gear. Its main games follow Guardians defending humanity through shared adventures and team encounters, while the mobile spin-off explores an alternate version of the universe through a cast of playable heroes.

8.1 / 10PlayStation 5

Native PS5 play improves combat comfort, while the launch-period free entry remains fragmented.

This assessment covers the native PS5 base experience from late 2020 through early 2021. Movement momentum carries naturally into shooting, keeping traversal and encounters closely connected. The regular presentation improves lighting, distance detail and character models. A separate month-long PS5 evaluation found the 60fps experience consistently fluid. Its field-of-view slider improves peripheral awareness, although wider settings make distant targets smaller and require adjustment. The competitive high-refresh option entails a visible image-quality compromise. The larger weakness is the entry path: free play introduces the world and combat, but major campaign additions then required purchases, and the volume of systems could overwhelm newcomers. Paid Beyond Light campaign content, Stasis and raids are not counted as free benefits, nor are removed 2017 campaigns. This historical score does not describe 2026 expansion entitlements or seasonal balance.

Strengths

  • Excellent connection between movement and gun handling
  • Useful native fluidity and view settings

Weaknesses

  • Fragmented launch-period free content
  • Dense systems for newcomers

Who it is for: Online players interested in the shooting foundation and equipment systems.

Play notes: Historical late-2020 to early-2021 PS5 scope. Requires internet; paid expansions and current entitlements must be considered separately.
