About this game

Citadale - The Legends Trilogy is a Wii U action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, collection and development goals, and movement and immediate actions. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Enjoyable retro timing with awkward session continuity.

Across three generations, Citadale builds its appeal around reading enemy patterns, timing attacks and strengthening throwing weapons with collected soul orbs. That makes fighting enemies meaningful beyond simply avoiding them, while pixel scenery and chiptunes establish a consistent nostalgic mood. The trilogy is less expansive than its name suggests: chapters resemble each other, exposition is sparse and the opening contains a pronounced difficulty spike. Later chapters offer steadier progression and conditional boss retries. Unlimited lives and checkpoints make practice less punishing, but the historical Wii U build lacks persistent saving after shutdown, and occasional missed aerial attacks interrupt combat. It is easiest to appreciate in uninterrupted chapter-length sessions. Players who need flexible stopping points may find the convenience limitations more substantial than its otherwise familiar retro pleasures.

Strengths

  • Pattern-based action and subweapon upgrades
  • Coherent pixel-art and chiptune atmosphere

Weaknesses

  • Limited chapter variation and storytelling
  • Absent shutdown saving and occasional missed attacks

Who it is for: For retro-action fans able to commit to uninterrupted sessions.

Play notes: Save/input observations refer to the 2017 Wii U review; later PC savestate patches are not inherited.
