About this game

Paris is burning in 1499. Rose Belmont accompanies Trevor into a city overrun by monsters, then becomes caught in the conspiracy behind the castle’s emergence. Her holy whip is a means of movement as well as confrontation, connecting jumps, swings and approaches to enemies. The adventure combines weapons, magical Arcana and ability-gated exploration. New powers create reasons to revisit paths and investigate passages that were previously unreachable. Choosing equipment and learning how to move through a room are linked parts of making progress across the map.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Rewarding exploration with expressive tools, tempered by uneven friction.

The appeal lies in turning a hostile map into a place the player can navigate with confidence. New equipment and movement abilities create reasons to investigate old boundaries, and the combination of grappling and combat gives that return journey more texture than simple backtracking. It is less persuasive when difficulty and animation timing interrupt the sense of growing fluency. A demanding boss can be satisfying, but the transition into that demand is not always as carefully paced as the exploration around it. The visual identity provides a strong setting without making the underlying structure feel radically new. This is a solid choice for someone who enjoys earning familiarity through persistence. The original Switch’s loading burden and the PS5 review’s reported audio and interaction faults are different issues, so their technical deductions are kept release-specific.

Strengths

  • Ability-led exploration and varied equipment.

Weaknesses

  • Difficulty spikes and platform-specific interruptions.

Who it is for: Persistent action-exploration fans comfortable learning timings.

Play notes: The October13 test covers about16hours on basePS5. Audio and interaction faults are review-era reports. October22v1.1.2 fixes a separate system-language issue, not a verified retest of these faults.
