About this game

Canvaleon is a Wii U action game centered on platform movement and landing judgment, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

6.6 / 10Wii U

Inventive camouflage platforming with costly repetition.

Canvaleon gives its white chameleon a striking solution to being unable to change color: collect pigment and paint camouflage with a friend before entering a level. Matching the scenery turns familiar side-scrolling jumps into a stealth exercise that rewards observation and planning. Secret routes, collectible characters and colorful fantasy worlds encourage exploration, while expressive animation gives the alien cast personality. A direct Wii U review, however, finds the camouflage effectiveness meter inconsistent. One-hit deaths without checkpoints can demand another round of pigment gathering, so experimentation often feels more expensive than it should. GamePad drawing and off-screen controls work, but precise jumps take retries and some crowded effects sound harsh. This is a promising, uneven original Wii U game for patient players who enjoy testing visual disguises. Those seeking brisk platforming and clear failure feedback should approach it cautiously; current shop availability is outside this assessment.

Strengths

  • GamePad camouflage painting and vivid worlds.

Weaknesses

  • One-hit resets, no checkpoints and uncertain camouflage feedback.

Who it is for: Patient players who enjoy stealth experiments.

Play notes: Original Wii U version only; current shop access is unverified.
