About this game

Bust-A-Move Millennium is a Game Boy Color puzzle release centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, story, case, or mission progress, and local connection or multiplayer interaction. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on campaign length or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio cues, and state feedback need to support decisions directly, while color choices need to distinguish characters, objects, and routes rather than serve as decoration alone. The main genre-specific friction is that limited explanations, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. In addition, battery saves, link cables, cartridge-specific hardware, the unlit display, and regional language can affect the original experience. This description covers only this release and excludes emulator features, modern-port conveniences, and content from other platforms.

7.6 / 10Game Boy Color (GBC)

A rewarding GBC bubble puzzler with a real colour-reading issue.

Bust-A-Move Millennium on Game Boy Color keeps the series’ strongest decision intact: bank a coloured bubble into a matching group and sometimes drop a whole suspended cluster by removing its support. The slowly descending ceiling gives these small geometric choices urgency. Story, fixed Puzzle and Endless modes offer different short-session goals, while computer and link-cable competition add another reason to revisit the cartridge. A direct contemporary GBC review finds the background and character variety sufficient for the small screen. Its sharper platform-specific criticism is practical: blue and green bubbles can be difficult to distinguish on the display, a problem that can spoil a carefully planned shot. The manual also does not explain every mode clearly, making the first few sessions less welcoming. These are real usability costs, but the underlying precision puzzle remains rewarding and well suited to portable play. It is a strong choice for players who enjoy repeated short attempts and can tolerate occasional colour ambiguity.

Strengths

  • Bank-shot chains, multiple modes and link competition.

Weaknesses

  • Blue-green ambiguity and thin mode instructions.

Who it is for: Players who like repeatable portable puzzle rounds.

Play notes: GBC display conditions only, not another platform version.
