About this game

Blues Brothers, The is a Super Famicom action release centered on platform movement and landing judgment, story, case, or mission progress, and movement and immediate actions. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on campaign length or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Readable animation, hits, and hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while sprite animation, scrolling, color, and chip-based audio jointly carry readability and atmosphere. The main genre-specific friction is that period-specific collision rules, limited guidance, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. In addition, password or battery saves, multiplayer accessories, manual dependence, regional language, and cartridge enhancement chips can affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this release and excludes emulator features, modern-port conveniences, and content from other platforms.

Reliable jumping and checkpoints outshine the licensed packaging.

The SNES Blues Brothers is easiest to appreciate as a platformer rather than a film adaptation. Jake or Elwood crosses short stages toward a jukebox, with later sections demanding accurate landings and occasional block or trampoline puzzles adding modest thought. Generous mid-level checkpoints make learning those sections friendly, since a mistake does not always send you back through an entire stage. Sewers, warehouses and fantastical mushroom scenery provide changing themes, but recurring rides and waiting cycles make parts of the adventure feel padded. The repeatedly reused, rough pickup voices are particularly unlikely to remain charming. It is a reasonable choice for lightweight solo or cooperative jumping, provided you do not expect a strong movie narrative or continually evolving stage mechanisms.

Strengths

  • Responsive, precise jumping
  • Generous mid-level checkpoints
  • Small puzzles complement short stages

Weaknesses

  • Repeated rides and waiting reduce variety
  • Rough pickup voices recur excessively
  • Weak connection between licence and mechanics

Who it is for: Players wanting short-stage solo or cooperative platforming with forgiving retries.

Play notes: This is the SNES version, not GB or NES. Later sections require accurate jumps; the film connection is thin and repeated voices can become tiring.
