About this game
Ballpoint Universe: Infinite is a Wii U shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and area and route exploration. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD television output and the GamePad screen need to divide maps, status, touch input, and primary focus clearly. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and multiplayer service conditions can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include GamePad battery life and range, shifts between two screens, loading, performance, and retired online and Miiverse services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Lovely sketchbook art undermined by unreliable Wii U jumps.
Ballpoint Universe: Infinite on Wii U is most immediately memorable as a moving sketchbook. Pen-drawn layers range from strange to ornate, and the music often supports the changing characters and scenery. Its play alternates between basic platform traversal and side-scrolling shooter missions. The paper aircraft can combine upper and lower weapons, a nose attack and other effects; melee arms activate near enemies, while guns offer direct aim. There are useful choices, although weak early firearms push many encounters toward close combat. The brief story is supplemented by an Infinite survival mode for players who enjoy building a larger arsenal and surviving waves. Ground movement is the serious obstacle. In the direct Wii U review, jumps sometimes fail to register and the floppy character is hard to place on narrow surfaces, leading to repeated attempts. Nearby checkpoints and a zoomed-out GamePad view reduce some frustration without making those misses predictable. Players drawn to unusual hand-drawn worlds may accept that trade. Those seeking precise platforming should know that it interrupts some of the stronger shooting. Current eShop availability is outside this 2014 release assessment.
Strengths
- Pen-drawn worlds and ship loadouts give distinct character.
Weaknesses
- Weak early guns and missed jumps cause repetition.
Who it is for: Players who value visual style and tolerate platforming friction.
Play notes: 2014 North American Wii U release only; current store access unverified.
