About this game

Backfirewall_ is a PlayStation 5 adventure game centered on puzzle, maze, or device solving, story, case, or mission progress, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while SSD streaming, 4K and HDR output, 3D audio, performance or quality modes, and high-density interfaces need to preserve feedback and information clarity together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include install size, SSD space, patch version, DualSense battery life, visual mode and frame rate, online dependencies, PS VR2 requirements, and cross-generation version differences affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Personified phone software tells a charming story around modest puzzles.

Backfirewall turns applications, processes and operating-system updates into characters with motives. Logs, graffiti and technical jokes build a miniature society, and the most interesting question is how its inhabitants respond to replacement. Deleting or duplicating objects to create errors is easy to understand, but repeated puzzle tasks offer limited development. Completionist collecting is also awkward. The PS5 reviewer reports no chapter selection and having to replay the opening after choosing an early joke ending, making experimentation less convenient than the tone suggests. It suits players attracted to personified software and programming humour more than demanding spatial puzzles. Follow the story first without feeling obliged to find everything. The assessment is limited to the 2023 test, with no promise about subsequent fixes.

Strengths

  • Inventive personified software world
  • Humour supports character relationships

Weaknesses

  • Repetitive, modest puzzles
  • Awkward replay and saving

Who it is for: Players attracted to personified software and programming humour.

Play notes: Follow the story first without feeling obliged to find everything.
