About this game

Anno - Create a New World is a Wii strategy game centered on resource or business management, battlefield assessment, and unit or resource management. Missions add map constraints, new rules, and tougher opposition, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make its immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Maps, unit states, and action feedback determine whether complex situations remain readable, while standard-definition output, motion feedback, and interface scale at television distance need to preserve control readability. The genre-specific limitation is that tutorial depth, dense menus, pointer precision, and long scenarios increase the learning curve. Platform conditions also include the Sensor Bar, remote batteries, motion calibration, peripheral requirements, storage limits, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features from other editions.

Wii pointer makes a deep city builder approachable.

The Wii release of ANNO: Create a New World makes island settlement and maritime trade unusually approachable on a home console. Players identify land for crops and minerals, then place warehouses, roads, homes and workshops within useful zones of influence so growing populations receive the goods they need. Seven story chapters introduce these relationships in stages. A continuous mode subsequently lets players change island size, disasters and competing settlements, providing room for slower long-term planning. The European Wii review specifically finds the Remote pointer a good substitute for a mouse when placing and managing buildings; that matters to a simulation dense with small decisions. Bright towns and contrasting Occident and Orient styles make the process welcoming, though the fictional setting avoids much historical conflict and players cannot take the role of pirates or the Orient. This is the 2009 Wii adaptation. Its controls and score are not inherited from PC Anno 1404 or the separately protected Nintendo DS version.

Strengths

  • Supply chains, teaching and sandbox reinforce one another.

Weaknesses

  • Faction choice and historical context are narrow.

Who it is for: Wii players seeking approachable city planning.

Play notes: European Wii release; PC and DS details excluded.
