About this game

A Sketchbook About Her Sun is a PlayStation 4 adventure game centered on story, case, or mission progress, character and object interaction, and objective or clue progression. Locations, objectives, and clues gradually open the main chapters, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Theme, character expression, and environmental clues need to support exploration together, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that guidance, objective triggers, camera behavior, or dense text can create search and comprehension costs. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

An intriguing music-led concept with little meaningful interaction.

A Sketchbook About Her Sun on PS4 works more as an interactive indie-rock album than a conventional branching visual novel. Lucia’s stream of consciousness follows eleven Red Ribbon songs. At selected moments, players choose a thought, and a short diary entry responds at the end of each chapter. A review explicitly covering PS4 finds the music and pleasant drawings appealing. The Planet X chapter is the standout: sketches are changed, erased and redrawn in ways that make Lucia’s emotions visible. Much of the rest is thinner. A few images and animations repeat until a song ends, diary pages often merely rearrange chosen words, and repeated playthroughs follow almost the same events without a satisfying conclusion. The roughly half-hour format is not itself a fault, but the uneven chapters and limited consequence reduce its impact. Simple interaction makes entry easy. It best suits listeners open to abstract, music-led introspection rather than players seeking substantial choices or a clear ending. The PS4 store lists English screen text only.

Strengths

  • Red Ribbon’s album gives the brief journey a coherent emotional tone.
  • The changing Planet X sketches make Lucia’s thoughts more tangible.

Weaknesses

  • Repeated imagery leaves several chapters feeling stretched to song length.
  • Diary responses and repeated runs add little meaningful consequence.

Who it is for: Listeners who enjoy indie rock and a short, abstract interactive narrative.

Play notes: Expect roughly half an hour, few meaningful branches and English screen text. The source supplies no measured frame-rate data.
