About this game

1Xtreme is a PlayStation racing game centered on vehicle control, route judgment, and speed and overtaking management. Tracks raise pressure through corners, rivals, and time targets, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Speed, track boundaries, and vehicle feedback determine driving readability, while early 3D graphics, pre-rendered backgrounds, CD audio, and full-motion video need to preserve targets and interface readability on a television. The genre-specific limitation is that visibility, collisions, steering precision, wheel support, or loading can limit consistency. Platform conditions also include disc loading, Memory Card saves, regional video standards, digital or analog control support, vibration, and dedicated peripherals affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Lively multi-sport racing weakened by sudden obstacles.

First sold as ESPN Extreme Games, 1Xtreme puts boards, skates, bikes and street luges into one unruly race. Reward gates, shortcuts and contact with rivals make a route about more than finding the shortest line. Split-screen play is especially good at producing immediate contests, and earned cash gives repeat races a modest upgrade goal. The track selection is limited, however, and hazards often appear so suddenly at speed that solo improvement becomes an exercise in memorising their positions. Sports-host footage and rough early 3D scenery give the game period character, although readability can affect reaction time. It suits friends seeking a chaotic arcade race more than a precise solo challenge.

Strengths

  • Ride types and gates create route choices.
  • Direct split-screen rivalry.

Weaknesses

  • Limited track variety.
  • Obstacles can arrive without fair warning.

Who it is for: Fans of early PlayStation arcade extreme-sports racing.

Play notes: Originally titled ESPN Extreme Games; emulator behaviour is excluded.

There are few tracks, while cash upgrades and split-screen rivalry provide repeat goals. Solo route memorisation wears thinner than racing with a friend.

Four ride types, reward gates and contact with opponents combine route choice with risk. Obstacles appearing abruptly reduce the chance to respond fairly.

Sports-host video gives the release a strong period identity, while blocky scenery and static trees look rough. It is memorable rather than especially clear or detailed.

On original PS1 courses, hazards can appear with little time to react. This creates a real readability cost and pushes players toward memorisation; hardware age alone is not penalised.
